OAO EVRAZ ZSMK Novokuznetsk commissions universal mill

OAO EVRAZ ZSMK Novokuznetsk, Russia, has commissioned a new universal mill for rails and sections supplied by SMS Meer, Germany. On the mill, OAO Novokuznetsk produces among others 100-meter-long rails for high-speed tracks. Novokuznetsk is using the mill stands and rolling technologies sup-plied by SMS Meer for the first time, for example the XH^® reversing rolling method for beams, and can thus improve the quality of its finished products significantly.

The plant is designed for a capacity of 1.3 million tons per year, 400,000 tons of which are 100-meter-long rails. Beams and U-sec-tions as well as round and square sections are also produced. CCS^® stands (Compact Cartridge Stands) are used in the universal mill. They are characterized by high rigidity. Furthermore it is possible to adjust the roll gap hydraulically and change the stands fully automat-ically. The "PROgauge" laser measuring system measures the finished sections inline.

The scope of supply includes two roughing stands with side guard manipulators, grip type tilter upstream and downstream of the tandem stand group, all transport facilities and a hot saw.

SMS Meer also supplied the media systems, electrical equipment and automation system, and took over the supervision of erection and commissioning and the training of customer's personnel.

The mill was installed in the existing workshops of OAO EVRAZ ZSMK Novokuznetsk.
