Metallo-Chimique orders second casting wheel for copper anodes

Metallo-Chimique from Beerse, Flanders, Belgium, has placed an order with SMS Meer, Germany, for the supply of a casting wheel for copper anodes. This will be the second machine of this type to be installed at the company's main works. A high level of automation and the special cooling of the molds enable Metallo-Chimique to significantly reduce production costs.

The scope of supply comprises a complete anode casting wheel with integrated turning device for anode packets. SMS Meer is to supply the machine with a dynamic cooling control system that helps to considerably prolong the service life of the molds used. The produced anodes are delivered from the machine in packets and in variable number and are stacked horizontally. The machine has a capacity of 50 tons per hour.

“Following the successful commissioning of the first anode casting wheel in 2012, Metallo-Chimique decided in favor of a second machine from SMS Meer. We aim to continue our fruitful cooperation with SMS Meer on the basis of the positive experience to date,” says Andy Breugelmans, Chief Engineer at Metallo-Chimique.

The complete erection and commissioning will be carried out by SMS Meer. By using the existing foundations and structures and due to extensive preassembly and testing before delivery the erection and commissioning time will be minimized.

The commissioning is scheduled for the first quarter of 2015.
