Sapa Profiles from Székesfehérvár, Hungary, one of the leading manufacturers of aluminum profiles, has placed an order with SMS Meer, Germany, for the delivery of a 32/35-MN short-stroke front-loading press. Thanks to the optimized hydraulic system, the plant offers short downtimes and a high level of productivity.

Impressive features of this energy-efficient, fully automated frontloading press from SMS Meer include a compact, stable press frame and short cylinder strokes. Other productivity-related benefits are gained from the energy-efficient design of the hydraulic drive unit. Unnecessary drives are deactivated by means of a newly developed system. Compared to older presses Sapa Profiles thereby saves a large amount of energy.

The press will be used to process nine inch billets in a range of lengths from 350 to 1,300 millimeters. The tool package allows rounds of up to 300 millimeters in diameter and flats with a width of up to 400 millimeters to be produced. The plant's non-productive time including unloading is just 12.4 seconds.

SMS Meer will integrate the new front-loading press seamlessly into the existing “Speedex” visualization system at Sapa that is used for the input, display and saving of all desired and actual parameters for the whole extrusion press line.

Commissioning is scheduled for February 2014.
