This article examines the work of P. P. Anosov in the context of the development of the Zlatoust Mining District from 1817 to 1847. P. P. Anosov’s career coincided with the formation of the Zlatoust Mining District (the period of “commercial law”), and the heyday of his activities was at the time when he was the director of the Zlatoust arms factory and the head of the Zlatoust Mining District. During the latter period, the Zlatoust District operated in accordance with the Statutes of 1829. The efficiency of the factories was determined not so much by increasing output as by reducing costs. His research was subordinated to the interests of production. It was aimed at solving key problems. The first one was improving product quality. Within this framework, Anosov developed technologies for the production of crucible steel, damask steel, bladed weapons, scythes, and barrel iron. Another focus was maintaining high levels of gold production (geological exploration, gold extraction methods).
