Abstract

The Upper Devonian carbonate deposits are among the most significant and highly productive in the Timan–Pechora petroleum province. At the same time, characterized by a diversity of natural reservoirs and lithofacies depositional environments, the geological models describing them are highly ambiguous. The difficulty of developing an adequate geological modeling is governed by the relatively poor quality of seismic data. This article presents a methodological approach to mapping the different-facies Upper Devonian deposits in the central area of the Khoreyver Depression based on macro- and microdescription of core, interpretation of well log data, laboratory core studies, seismic sections along four profiles, as well as seismic cubes from adjacent areas. Lithofacies zonation schemes of the study area and a conceptual model of the reef complex structure in the section of the Frasnian–Famennian deposits are proposed. It is noted that within the study area, the Upper Frasnian–Famennian deposits are characterized by facies ranging from shallow-marine, reef to moderately deep-water, controlling the development of natural reservoirs in more than 30 similar areas.
