| Abstract | The Khabarovsk Region is one of the most dynamically developing Russia’s mining regions. The article describes the main mineral resources in the region (reserves, production and percentage on the balance sheet of Russia and Russia’s Far Eastern District). The region is developing deposits of gold (placers and primary deposits), platinum group metals, tin, tungsten, copper, bituminous coal and lignite, and common minerals, with positive dynamics being observed. The introduction of new coal mining facilities, the growth in the amount of gold mined, the launch of the first stage of the Malmyzh Mining and Processing Plant, which produces copper concentrate, the leadership in tin mining (80% of total tin production in Russia), etc.—all these have a positive effect on the socio-economic indicators presented in the article. Investment processes aimed at commissioning new fields, modernization of existing fields and construction of new production facilities continue unabated in the industry. Thus, in the study region, 8 large investment projects in the mining industry are in the active phase of implementation with a total investment volume of more than 450 billion rubles, including 320 billion rules already invested. The article presents some of the largest projects, indicating the size of investment, jobs created and other characteristics. Particular attention in the region is paid to the development of human resources. The authors highlight the events and methods of training specialists. At the same time, the problematic issues that exist in the region, hinder the effective development of the mining industry and require timely solutions are highlighted. It is concluded that the region will continue to be one of the leaders in the mining and processing industry and make a significant contribution to ensuring the technological sovereignty and economic sustainability of the Russian Federation. Involvement of promising subsoil site facilities in commercial-scale development will have a positive effect on the regional economy and will contribute to strengthening economic security in the Russian Far East. |
