Abstract

A promising trend of mechanization in open pit mineral mining is the use of high-power hydraulic excavators. Modern excavators are the hi-tech and expensive equipment which requires high-quality maintenance under increasing complexity of hard rock excavation and with the growing depth of open pit mines. The excavator bucket and its cutting and protecting elements exist in continuous contact with rocks. It is of concern currently to investigate the causes and size of wear, and the methods of wear protection as the condition of the bucket directly influences the excavator repair cost and, consequently, the machine performance. However, the issues connected with the reduction in operating cost of mechanical systems of buckets and with the enhancement of excavator reliability remain yet to be solved. The related research becomes increasingly more relevant. The introduction of the advanced equipment and its maintenance provides a company with competitive advantages, and the research of the modern mechanisms becomes critical for large mining companies, including Navoi Mining and Metallurgy. This article describes the scientific results on the enhancement of operating efficiency of hydraulic excavators by means of extension of durability of excavator bucket cutting elements through introduction of the advanced engineering solutions and process designs. The developed engineering solutions were introduced at Auminzo-Amantoi open pit, Central Mine Management, Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Combinat. As a result, the annual maintenance cost of hydraulic excavator HITACHI EX-1200 was cut down by 12 %.
