"Chernye Metally" (transl.: Ferrous Metals journal) is the Russian monthly metallurgical journal that publishes materials about whole spectrum of the problems, innovations and news of Russian and foreign iron and steel industry.

"Chernye Metally" as mass media is published both in printed and electronic versions. Contents of these 2 versions is identical. Electronic and printed formats of edition are necessary to provide the readership opportunity to choose the most suitable version for reading.

Based on resolution of the Supreme Attestation Committee (VAK) of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the journal is included in the “List of periodical and scientific-technical editions published in the Russian Federation, where publication of the main results of Doctor’s theses are recommended” for the theme of metallurgy.

In 2016, the journal "Chernye Metally" was included into the international bibliographic and abstract database Scopus, whichis an instrument for tracking of scientific articles' citedness. The Ministry of education and science of Russian Federation considers theScopus database as a criterion of estimation of efficiency of activity of higher education institutes. The editorial office bears no responsibility for the terms of inclusion of meta-data of the published articled in the Scopus database.

"Chernye Metally" journal is included in Chemical Abstracts Service database.

"Chernye Metally" journal is one of the most respectable Russian monthly periodicals in the field of iron and steel industry. At first it was translation into Russian of the leading European metallurgical title “Stahl und Eisen”, but since 1998 it began regular publishing of scientific-technical articles of Russian metallurgists, and now it is completely focused on publications from Russian and CIS specialists.

The features of "Chernye Metally" journal are based on publishing materials about up-to-date scientific innovations both national and foreign metallurgists; it allows to compare them demonstrably and to get full information about current state and development tendencies of iron and steel industry in Russia and abroad. Such editorial practice is rather popular among the readership.

"Chernye Metally" journal publishes both separate articles about innovations in the field of iron and steel industry and experience of their putting into practice at metallurgical works, and also complex collections of materials on plants and technological directions. The topics of publications covers whole area of metallurgical production from iron- and steel making, casting and rolling to finishing, heat treatment and coating of metal products. Serious attention is paid in the journal to up-to-date technological processes (such as metal shape memory, superductility, manufacture of large diameter tubes, micro-mills etc), as well as actual problems of environment protection, resource saving and training of specialists.

"Chernye Metally" journal publishes on regular base information and advertising materials of many national and foreign exhibitions and conferences, where this edition is an information sponsor or partner.

"Chernye metally" is an expert peer-review edition.
