Chernye Metally

The No. 9 issue of "Chernye metally" journal is opened by the conventional section "Development of metallurgy in Russia and other CIS countries".

E. A. Chernyshov, A. D. Romanov, E. Yu. Polikhina and E. A. Romanova from Nizhniy Novgorod State Technical university have presented comparative analysis of quality improvement of liquid metal and castings made of high-strength medium-alloyed steel. Positive effect of ladle vacuum treatment on elimination of casting defects and surface quality of metal products.

A. V. Protasov and I. V. Komolov from VNIIMetMash scientific center have estimated in their article technical and economical aspects of application of powder metallurgical wire with fillers on the base of silicocalcium and other elements at different national metallurgical works. It is shown that usage of monolithic calcium wire and multi-component calcium-containing powder wire are prospective directions.

S.V. Rodinkov and A.M. Kriventsov with colleagues have continued the series of reviews devoted to national rolling production. In this issue, they have examined the features of construction of rolling stands of section mills, including no-housing rolling stands.

Two large publications are presented in the section "Iron and Steel Production". In the first of them, the specialists of Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann have described in details the experience of erection and putting into practice the coke chemical shop at the plant in Duisburg-Hackingen, what have allowed to achieve self-providing by high-quality coke.

The second article examines quality analysis of electric steelmaking slags and possibilities of their usage as special finished product. Meeting the requirements of legal ecological standards and keeping the proper quality are considered to be the main aspects in this production scheme.

This issue also includes publications on economical problems of investing in German and European iron and steel industry; on the problems of HR policy in metallurgy, connected with current demographic situation; on features of labour protection and social partnership in Germany; on the most wide possibilities of steel application as innovative material in power engineering and automotive building.
